Why Day Old Bread? What the heck? When I was younger... much younger we would make a trip to the day old bread store. We would travel the 45 miles or so to Des Moines from our little home town in Iowa. We would go to McDonalds and have a cheeseburger for $.15 and and fries for $.12! We would stock up on bread at half price, take it home and put it in the freezer. If we were really lucky we would go to the candy factory where they made Bun candy bars and buy the 2nds that had broken during manufacturing. My father worked two jobs for a good part of his life and these were some ways we could stretch our dollars.
I used to take a lot for granted then as I am sure many of us did when we were young. The bread was just as good as if we had bought it the day before and the candy just as sweet as the perfect ones, so why not stock up? It made sense to me then and it makes sense to me today. The crystals on this page are as good as they were yesterday and are as sweet as the perfect ones. Only thing is no one has made a home for them yet. So I will put them on the day old bread page, you can save money and stock up your freezer!
Dad, thank you for your guidance and help. You were the best dad then and you still are now. I owe you so much for all you taught me. I will always be in gratitude! This page is dedicated to you and your eternal love and support. Someday we will hug again. I love you very much.
